In addition to the blade looks, the watch case also features something that Seiko calls blade polishing. The mirror polished surfaces are done in a special technique that gives them a superior shine and polish compared to most of what is out there. I got to see a little side-by-side discussing the differences and I agree that the Seiko blade polish system is easily superior. The polishing is done by hand, and another touch of luxury that is easy to appreciate.

Remember that putting the lever and chadburn back in the middle position will always return the watch to the correct time. Why does the Horus Ultramarinum do this? As a novelty. To time travel, or to make it so that you can look at your watch and say "look at the time. I gotta go," more often and it look later than it is. Trust me, this is a more useful, useless novelty than some I have seen (that means you Franck Muller Secret Hours watch). It is kind of cool as well.  Oh, and The Marine watch is water resistant to 200 meters, which is actually not bad given this type of watch. Good if your luxury sailing vessel capsizes. Down with the ship, does not need to mean down with your investment.

Anyone in the US knows the power of the Lexus brand these days. Shift your attention to me sitting here in a hotel room in northern Japan. I am in the midst of my invitational pilgrimage to Seiko, as I begin what will be a great many articles over the rest of my watch reporting career. I sit here with having a profoundly new perception of Seiko, a more accurate vision of the entire manufacture. If there is one thing that Seiko hasn’t been able to achieve yet is mass communication of how good they are. I say it here now, European watch companies, fear the Japanese.

You don't need to spend a lot of money to get a decent mechanical diver's watch. When ,000 and more per a watch isn't in accordance with your budget it can be hard to feed the watch lover need. A little bit of good advice and horological discovery are all you need to fill your drawers with fun watches that look good, work well, and won't break the bank. Here is the orange dialed version of the Orient "Mako" CEM65001M automatic diver's watch. It has an Orient made manufacture mechanical calibre 469 movement with day and date, as well as a study steel bracelet and a good look. The watch comes in several dial colors if orange isn't your style. Other dial colors choices include yellow, black, blue. The yellow dialed version is a special edition model that can be acquired on on Amazon.com. There are also a few bezel color options available. Just to compare, the top of the line Orient Diver's watch is this CFD0C001B timepiece that I reviewed here.

I didn't speak very fondly of the last Zodiac watch I reviewed a while ago. That was the Zodiac ZMX 03, which just had too many design problems in my opinion. The situation is different with this Automatic Titanium watch (ZMX-04 ZO8510). The design here is well thought out, and all the pieces are in the right places. Best of all, the Zodiac designers figured out an effective solution to one of the biggest design problems I've been seeing on modern watches.

Watch Collection Essentials: Executive Watches

Going to the front of the watch again, you'll see the Phosphor logo in cursive engraved into the case. The look is nice, and I like the cursive style of the text against the otherwise modern looking case. It brings down any apparent nerdiness of the watch making it much more hip instead. Which is really a good statement about the watch as a whole. The combo of an unknown display technology combines with a futuristic looking case could easily have gone in the wrong direction for Phosphor, but with the Digital Hour Clock, they pull the timepiece off well, and I think it has real mass appeal.

I would have liked the bezel on the watch to rotate. This might have been hard with the design.  As it is, the bezel is screwed in. A lot of the character of the watch comes in on the caseback. Without this piece, the watch wouldn't be what it is. The engravings on the caseback really make the watch what it is, by reminding you of who the watch is named for. It also makes you smile in a smirky, "I have a kick-ass watch" sort of way. On the back you first see a nicely rendered machine gun. This was apparently Marcinko's gun of choice in Vietnam. There is then a patriotic "United States Of America," reminding you where the watch comes from, and finally you get an interesting acronym. I'll tell you what the letters mean, even though you won't see the explanation on the Rogue Warrior Watches website. W.G.M.A.T.A.T.S. was the unofficial motto of Marcinko's military unit, and stood for "we get more ass than a toilet seat."

Three dials and three movements, this B.R.M. (BRM) 3MVT-52 (also known at the 3MVT-52N watch was origianlly released in 2006 and was to a degree a watch that was ahead of its time. Why? Because it was damn big at 52mm wide and in titanium. Each movement is an automatic ETA 2671 mechanical movement that has its own dedicated crown. Now you can understand the scheme behind the model name of the watch "3MVT-52" - three movements, 52mm wide. BRM watches all have a auto racing theme. Nothing says auto racing more than a checkerboard pattern, which is what the sides of the watch are decorated with over the titanium case. The frames around the case have drilled holes and screws and serve a nice cosmetic function to make the face of the watch and the three dials really pop out. I have a feeling most people walking by would give this watch a second take look.

I  chose the particular hands for the watch that I did, because they are large, and because the hour hand is in a different shape than the minute hand - which assists with quick reading of the time (your brain doesn't need to spend as much time calculating which hand does what). I am glad that the hands are the proper size as well. The seconds hand sweeps nicely and has a lume covered section as well. You could have likely predicted that I enjoy the date window. Why? Not only do I like the symmetrical placement of the case in the lower middle of the dial, but also because DWATCH knew to use a matching color date disc - to compliment the dial. Also, I like how the date window is framed. The manner in which the date window was implemented retains that function (which I like to have), and also preserves the clean look of the dial. Thus, as the design of the dial might look obvious, I suspect there was a lot of tweaking that needed to be done - and as a lover of finely engineering items, I appreciate that in anything I own.

One can always expect beautiful artistic watch creations from Van Cleef & Arpels each year at SIHH. Not that any of the watches are affordable to the lay person. For examples these models are all in platinum. They are highly primed for visual appreciation. Of the 2010's new collections from Van Cleef & Arpels is the Midnight Extraordinary Series. I don't know exactly how models there are. but here are three from the main California Landscapes collection, and two below from the Midnight Extraordinary Japanese Lacquer series.

There are a few strap options as well, but nothing super exciting right now. At 24mm wide, you could fit any Panerai strap and it would look pretty cool. DWATCH does not currently offer a metal bracelet, but apparently they will soon. Inside the watch is a Swiss ETA high-grade 2824-2 automatic movement that finds itself in many a diver's watch - for good reason because it really is hardly and is a good movement. Nothing super fancy, but a good workhorse.

The Easy Diver SED Tourbillon is really large and really light. The 48mm wide case is in all titanium an feels light as a feather. Give then fact that the movement is barley there, this fact makes a lot of sense. In addition to the rubber strap with a titanium deployment, there is some rubber sandwiched into the construction of the case. Everything about the watch is very sporty, but also luxurious. Look closely at the slanted chapter ring around the dial - you'll notice that the hour markers are rubies. Very cool in my opinion. There is a sly nature to Rober Dubuis watches that present luxury in an unapologetically pronounced manner, without the pretention that you might expect from a luxury watch company.

So, what is the Black Mamba watch made of other than jewels on some models? I will give you the run down of the major materials and leave it to Nubeo to show you how they are each applied. Ceramic is a major component in the case, especially the "lip" that fits so nicely over your wrist. There is also titanium, steel, and rubber. Click on the article above about the Black Mamba having the most complex case in the world to get some more details on that and some cool "explosion" shots. The watch is also big, but probably the most comfortable "big" watch I have ever worn. This is all due to Nubeo's clever and well-conceived design - much of which you'll notice, and some of which you'll only learn about years after wearing the watch as you discover new intricacies to the design.

Wally Schirra's Gold Omega Speedmaster Professional

Next for Seiko is working to share with people outside Japan what they have been doing for decades. While it may be late, Seiko has finally decided to share themselves with the world. You’ll be hearing more impressive things about Seiko, and more importantly, you’ll have access to some of these fantastic timepieces that mostly only Japan has been able up until now. The first step is the new Ananta line of luxury Seiko watches that will beat your expectations.

Ever since the new Calibre 5 movement based Tag Heuer Aquaracer watches came out I knew that they were going to be a big hit. Now, after Tag Heuer has penetrated the market with loads of marketing many of us many not yet have seen any of the actual pieces. The new Aquaracer watches look nothing like the previous line, which is a good or bad thing depending on how you see it. Well, there are SOME similarities. In fact, Tag Heuer still makes both lines, calling the new one the Aquaracer 500m. I think it is interesting when a company replaces an old model with something else, but still makes the old model. I've always appreciated how the new line is both aggressive and stylish - as well as durable enough to serious diving needs.

Good luck, and thanks to Phosphor Watches, the sponsor of the Digital Hour Clock watch giveaway here at aBlogtoRead.com!
