Rare German Temption CGK203 Valjoux 7751 Based Watch Available

Rare German Temption CGK203 Valjoux 7751 Based Watch Available

I am not going to spend a lot of time discussing the design as I could never do it full justice. All Temption watches are a combination of modern minimalism, Bauhaus, and a Japanese aesthetic known as Wabisabi. What you end up with is a distinct look that really does not fall into any one design group, but has a healthy dose of each of them. Seeing the clean lines, you might think the CGK204 design is minimalist, but viewing all the specifically aesthetic design features on the watch, you'd agree it was too designer to be mere minimalism. I'd venture to say that the design of the CGK204 is almost futuristic, maybe not in the most modern of senses, but certainly something out of Star Trek or Star Wars (think of all the instrument panel designs).

So begins a series of articles that will appear both here and on Luxist.com chronicling the many lessons I learned, and splendors I witnessed as a guest of luxury German watch poster child, A. Lange & Söhne. To help all of you, I am going to first assist you with the pronunciation of the brand name, which I only recently mastered. Phonetically, it is “Ah Lhangeh und Zoneh.” For convenience, I am going to leave out the umlaut over the "o" in "Söhne," but it should be there. What elevates Lange watches to the highest levels of luxury is the fact that they design and manufacture their own watch movements, apply the highest standards of quality to each step of the manufacturing and decoration process, and utilize only the highest grade materials in each watch they produce.

Another Japan Only Spring Drive Movement Watch Line: The Seiko Galante Models

Another Japan Only Spring Drive Movement Watch Line: The Seiko Galante Models

The Land Instrument is a nice feeling device, and is built to be light (41 grams) yet durable. The body is constructed from aircraft grade aluminum, with a mineral glass screen. While the device looks thick, most of the underside in concave allowing for it to fit on a Linde Werdelin Biformeter watch - making it pretty slim in reality. Size wise, it is about 44mm long, 52 mm wide, and 18mm tall at its highest point. Two little hinged clips on the side of the case allow for it to be clipped on to a Biformeter watch, charger, or the Land Instrument's accessories that come with it or can be purchased from Linde Werdelin.

You'll notice that these three watches heavily feature the use of diamonds. Well women do like diamonds, but there is another reason. Not to sound remedial, but people like diamonds because they shine. The shine comes from light refracting off the various flat planes on the cut gem. When you are inspecting a diamond, you gently turn it in the light to admire its sparkle. Using this same concept, the designers of these three watches specifically places diamonds on the moving parts so as to enhance the sparkle factor. I do hope that "sparkle factor" now becomes an industry terms.

Never say that there is something wrong with the watches coming from Japan. There may be a ton of them, lots of them may be ugly or forgettable, but most of today's useful watch innovation is coming from the land of the rising sun, not Europe. While the Swiss and Germans are focused on perfecting the past, the Japanese are hard at work figuring out the next way to not only improve, but lower the cost of technically superior watches.

Evisu Jeans Of Japan Adds Swiss Watches To Its Fashionable Line Up Watch Releases Evisu Jeans Of Japan Adds Swiss Watches To Its Fashionable Line Up Watch Releases You typically see fashion designers from Europe use the Japanese to make their watches (especially the movements). Evisu has turned the tables on this, and is a Japanese designer that is using the Swiss to make their new lines of watches, which look pretty cool from a fashion perspective.

Korsbek is one of these new types of high quality style emulation brands.  The company uses a mixture of German and Swiss parts to create high quality limited edition watches that under-cut the price of Kobold watches by more than half much of the time. Here is one of their nicest watches that was part of a limited edition of 100. They are on to their next models, but this Korsbek Ocean Explorer watch is worth looking closely at.The Kobold retails for over a 00 more than the Korsbek. I think the Korsbek Ocean Explorer is an excellent value and interpretation of the design. Lets look at its details a bit.

aBlogtoRead.com has seen a lot of change, and I hope that this trend continues for the better. Over the summer, I wrote aBlogtoRead.com's  "300 articles published" announcement. That seemed like a big number at the time. Pretty soon I will lose count, but here is a way for you to catch up a bit. I've added a new feature on the site that some of you are bound to have missed. It is pretty cool actually. Look over on the navigation bar to the right. There is a newer section called "Random aBlogtoRead.com Article." Underneath the heading is the title, which is a link to an aBlogtoRead.com article that you might have missed. Each time you visit aBlogtoRead.com, a new random article will automatically show up in that space . It even works if you reload the site from your browser. I think it is a great way to help introduce content to you, that you'd otherwise have to go back countless pages to retrieve.

Figuring that their traditional looks were sort of alienating the younger population of watch buyers, Jaquet Droz thought they would liven things up a big injecting a new and more rugged design into their traditional figure eight layout theme. The resulting watch looks really cool actually, but only looks rugged as my inclination is to say that you don't want to go around beating up this watch. Inside is an automatic mechanical movement of course.

Girard-Perregaux Flyback Chronograph Monte Carlo 1973 Watch

Girard-Perregaux Flyback Chronograph Monte Carlo 1973 Watch

Laco isn't always known for their individuality, but they take classic aviation and diving watches, and place a polished, clean rendition of their own on them. Actually they have been making pilot watches in that particular style before it was considered a "vintage" look. This particular model is essentially a Teutonic clone of the also new(ish) Cartier Pasha Seatimer. If I know Laco, then this new watch will sport an automatic Swiss movement (likely an ETA 2824-2), and be reasonably priced.

Burlet was not always an artist, but lived a life around automobiles. Somewhere in the mix he developed an eye for watches and seemingly became fascinated by their connection to fine cars. Burlet has a penchant for painting Ferrari cars both new and old. Though he does of course recreate other automobiles in watercolor as well.

Angular Momentum Asks “Whats Your Sign?,” With The New Orbis Signifier Collection Of Watches

As part of this homage the China, Ernst Benz is very particular about pleasing the current Chinese government. The distinct reds of this watch are noted as "China Red." Statement about the government or otherwise? The black hands and cases of the black watches are done in PVD. My choice of course is the black PVD case model with the red face, black hands, and red alligator strap. Now that is a nice watch!

Corum's obsession with skulls has thus far produced a range of watches unlike anything else. None of these are mere novelty watches. Each has a very high level of quality, with many featuring fully diamond gilded bezels. I am not going to go into detail with each of these watches because there are so many, but if you hover your mouse over the pictures, you'll learn the model name. My favorite is probably the Jolly Roger model that features the bones as watch hands. This is pure Beetlejuice-esque and extremely whimsical. I mean all of these watches have so much personality it is hard to not like them. It only Tim Burton remained just being a good art director, and never moved on to being a terrible movie maker, but I digress.

num8 GPS Locator Watch By LOK8U, For Kids! Luxury Items Lets go over the major flaws right away. 1) You need to use the Internet (probably ok via a smart phone too) to locate your brood.  2) Any rascally (or semi independent kid) who is able to count jelly beans is gonna figure out really quick that for mommy and daddy to stop playing big brother, they just need to take the big plastic thing on their wrist off (LOK8U note to self, "make next version attach with single handcuff, not plastic, no big goofy key"). 3) This device is not going to have a battery life long enough to find your child who has been kidnapped by criminally disabled ransomers. Aside from these issues, the technology is pretty cool.

The Schauer Day Date GL watch is a fine example of German creativity which does not cause functional confusion. What I mean is that while the watch undoubtedly presents a degree of creativity in its design, there is nothing so revolutionary about it that you stop to figure out what is going on (you see this with many newer Swiss watches in my opinion). Schauer has always been about sober good taste, and that is represented in the fine detailing and craftsmanship here.

Alternatively, if you are a buyer interested in bidding on an auction with a reserve price, it would behoove you to simply ask the seller what the reserve price is. Easy enough, considering a lot of desirable watch auctions are listed with a reserve price, and it is helpful to simply know what that price is. Happy eBaying.
